Managing conflict and navigating challenging conversations positively.

13 Jun 2025
Conflict is unavoidable and challenging conversations inevitable!  How do we navigate both so that we build the most positive and constructive relationships, ensuring we adopt a solution-focussed rather than a problem-obsessed approach (and encourage others to do the same)?
Whether we face tricky conversations with students, with colleagues (both those we lead and those who lead us), with peers in other organisations, with parents or with members of the wider community within which our schools sit, we need constantly to learn from experience and develop our skills so that every interaction we have moves us forward and not backwards.
This session offers practical strategies and balanced advice to increase our capacity and our confidence in the face of confrontation.  Can we inspire those we lead so that they follow our positive example?
By the end of the session, you will have considered how best to prepare for, conduct and follow up after challenging conversations, and how to respond calmly and confidently when faced with conflict and confrontation.  While recognising that this is never easy to manage, you should feel more self-assured about your capacity to cope, and to act as a positive model to others.
