Steve has spent his whole career in education – first as a teacher and then as an adviser and inspector. Steve was Director of Education in Knowsley, near Merseyside for 5 years. Between 2005 and 2012, he was Chief Executive of the National College for School Leadership in England. In this role he had overall responsibility for the training and development of school principals in state-maintained schools in England and also for the training and development of Directors of Children’s Services in Local Authorities.
He retired in August 2017 as Chief Executive of Education Development Trust, an international education charity working in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
He is now a self-employed consultant and speaker on leadership and on system reform. He is also the facilitator for the ARC summits, which brings together education systems from across the world. He is Visiting Professor at University College London Institute for Education and is Chair of the Teaching Awards Trust in England.
